How to Completely Empty a Keurig for Storage

If you’re planning to store your Keurig coffee maker for an extended period, it’s important to ensure that it’s completely empty to prevent any mold or mildew growth. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to completely empty a Keurig for storage.

1. Unplug the Keurig

Before you start, make sure to unplug the Keurig from the power source to avoid any accidents during the cleaning process.

2. Remove the Water Tank

Take out the water tank from the Keurig and empty it. Make sure to pour out any remaining water to prevent it from spilling during storage.

3. Clean the Water Tank

Wash the water tank with warm, soapy water and rinse it thoroughly. If there’s any residue or mineral buildup, you can use a mixture of white vinegar and water to clean it. Let the tank air dry completely before placing it back in the Keurig.

4. Clean the Reservoir

Remove the reservoir from the Keurig and clean it with warm, soapy water. Use a soft cloth or sponge to avoid scratching the surface. Once clean, let it air dry.

5. Empty the K-Cup Holder

Remove any K-Cups from the holder and discard them. If there’s any coffee grounds left in the holder, use a paper towel to wipe them out.

6. Clean the K-Cup Holder

Wipe down the K-Cup holder with a damp cloth to remove any coffee residue. If needed, use a small brush to scrub away any stubborn spots.

7. Clean the Brewing Chamber

Remove the brewing chamber from the Keurig and clean it with warm, soapy water. Be sure to clean the drip tray as well. Once clean, let the chamber air dry.

8. Wipe Down the Outside

Use a damp cloth to wipe down the outside of the Keurig, removing any dust or spills. Be gentle to avoid damaging any plastic or metal parts.

9. Store the Keurig

Place the Keurig in a cool, dry place. It’s best to store it in its original box or a similar container to protect it from dust and potential damage.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your Keurig is completely empty and ready for storage. This will help maintain its longevity and ensure that it’s in perfect condition when you’re ready to use it again.
