How to Empty a Keurig for Storage

Emptying your Keurig for storage is an essential step to ensure that your coffee maker remains in top condition. Whether you’re moving, storing it for the winter, or simply need to clean it out, following these steps will help you maintain your Keurig’s performance and longevity.

1. Unplug the Keurig

Before you begin, it’s crucial to unplug the Keurig to avoid any accidents or damage. Locate the power cord and pull it out of the outlet. This step is vital for your safety and the integrity of the device.

2. Remove the K-Cup Pod Holder

Locate the K-Cup pod holder on the top of the Keurig. Gently press the release button, if available, and pull the holder out. This will give you access to the reservoir and other components.

3. Empty the Reservoir

With the K-Cup pod holder removed, you can now see the reservoir. Remove the lid and pour out any remaining water. Be sure to empty the reservoir completely to prevent any mold or mildew from forming during storage.

4. Clean the Reservoir

After emptying the reservoir, rinse it with warm water to remove any residue. You can also use a mild detergent if necessary. Be sure to dry the reservoir thoroughly before placing it back in the Keurig.

5. Clean the K-Cup Pod Holder

Take a damp cloth and wipe down the K-Cup pod holder, including the drip tray and the area where the K-Cup pod is inserted. This will help remove any coffee grounds or residue that may have accumulated.

6. Wipe Down the Outside

Using a damp cloth, wipe down the outside of the Keurig to remove any spills or dirt. This will keep your coffee maker looking clean and prevent any buildup from affecting its performance.

7. Dry the Keurig

After cleaning, allow the Keurig to dry completely before storing it. This will prevent any moisture from causing damage or mold growth.

8. Store the Keurig

Once the Keurig is dry, you can store it in a cool, dry place. Consider using a storage bag or box to protect it from dust and potential damage. Make sure the Keurig is unplugged and the lid is closed securely.

By following these steps, you can easily empty your Keurig for storage and keep it in great condition for future use. Happy brewing!
