How to Empty Clipboard in Windows 8

The clipboard is a temporary storage space in Windows 8 that allows you to copy and paste text, images, and other content between applications. However, sometimes you may want to clear the clipboard to remove sensitive information or to free up memory. In this article, we will guide you through the steps on how to empty the clipboard in Windows 8.

Step 1: Open the System Properties

To begin, you need to open the System Properties window. There are a couple of ways to do this:

1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box. Type “sysdm.cpl” and press Enter.
2. Right-click on the Start button and select “System” from the menu.

Step 2: Access the Advanced System Settings

Once the System Properties window is open, click on the “Advanced system settings” link on the left-hand side. This will open the System Properties dialog box.

Step 3: Go to the Advanced Tab

In the System Properties dialog box, click on the “Advanced” tab. Here, you will find various settings related to system performance and appearance.

Step 4: Click on the “Environment Variables” Button

In the Advanced tab, locate the “Environment Variables” button and click on it. This will open the Environment Variables window, where you can modify the system environment variables.

Step 5: Modify the CLIPBOARD

In the Environment Variables window, scroll down and find the “CLIPBOARD” variable. Double-click on it to open the Edit Environment Variable dialog box.

Step 6: Clear the CLIPBOARD Variable

In the Edit Environment Variable dialog box, you will see the “Value” field containing the path to the clipboard. To clear the clipboard, simply delete the contents of the “Value” field and click “OK.”

Step 7: Close the Open Windows

After clearing the CLIPBOARD variable, close all the open windows by clicking “OK” in each dialog box until you are back at the desktop.

Now you have successfully emptied the clipboard in Windows 8. This will remove any copied content from the clipboard, ensuring that sensitive information is no longer accessible.
